KATHMANDU, Dec 14: CPN-UML vice-chairs Astalakshmi Shakya and Yubaraj Gyawali have announced that they will not contest internal party elections in the ongoing 11th general convention.

Speaking at the Central Committee meeting held at Bhrikutimandap on Sunday, Shakya said she had decided not to seek any party post, stressing that her focus would remain on whatever strengthens the party. “I will no longer run in elections. I will continue to do whatever helps make the party stronger,” she said, adding that leaders must free themselves from the notion that the party cannot function without them.
Vice-chair Yubaraj Gyawali echoed the sentiment, saying he would refrain from contesting elections but would continue to remain active within the party.
